Post-Election Statement
Houston, Texas, November 3, 2010
Yesterday, November 2, 2010, the voters of Texas 14th Judicial District Court of Appeals elected my opponent, incumbent Republican Justice Tracy Christopher, putting an end to my bid for that post. Every Democratic challenger for the 1st and 14th Courts of Appeals faced materially identical results, as did the Democratic judicial incumbents and challengers in Harris and surrounding counties. The only exceptions were a handful of incumbent Democratic judges in local races who faced no opposition.
Clearly, this was a Republican year. While I had hoped for a different outcome for all of my fellow Democratic judicial candidates, I respect the decision of the voters.
I have known my opponent, Justice Tracy Christopher, for more than 25 years. I knew her as a lawyer before she first took the bench, and as a civil district judge in Harris County. I always found Judge Christopher to be an intelligent, honest, and fair-minded lawyer and jurist. I sincerely wish her only the best in her upcoming 6 year term on the 14th Court of Appeals, and congratulate her on her victory.
To those individuals who supported my campaign, my sincerest thanks. I was truly honored and humbled to be elected as the Democratic nominee for this important position. Now that the general election is concluded, I will return full-time to representing my clients to the best of my abilities, and to my teaching duties as well. I will remain involved, however, in the political process.
